Tyse stalked the dark sitting room, pacing backward and forward. His head throbbed, his jaw was tense. He was not getting to sleep until Dinah was back from her evening out.

The front door swished open and when he whirled around, Dinah froze in the entryway, laughter dying on her lips.

Tyse folded his arms across his chest. “It’s late. I was worried.”

Her eyes grew wide. “You were?”

“You didn’t tell me what time you’d be home. Now I’m all wound up. I’ll have trouble sleeping. I have that important meeting tomorrow.”

Dinah stepped closer, putting her bag down and coming to hover in front of him. “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize.”

He sighed. Was he thirty-five, or five? “It’s not your fault.” Turning away, he swallowed the last of his drink and placed the glass down on a nearby table. “I’d normally arrange for a fuck when I feel like this, but that isn’t an option right now.” He grimaced when he realized he’d spoken the blunt words out loud. He had probably had more drinks than he’d meant to. It wasn’t that he was desperate to talk to her about it. Far from it. He should be avoiding her. Why had he lingered in the sitting room anyway?

“Oh!” Dinah’s voice sounded breathless. She looked as if she wanted to take another step toward him.

Dinah didn’t recoil. Her expression didn’t change from the look of open curiosity and interest.
